The title Knight was given to somebody for completing a quest for doing a service for The King. Knights were usually mounted soldiers and they were considered lesser nobles. Eventually being called a Knight was because you were being recognized for a great deed. The idea of having soldiers on horses came from the Franks when Rome had fallen and the idea was continued by Charlemagne. If you were a person with armor on a horse you were considered a Knight in the early times. Eventually being called a Knight was just your status in the feudal system.
If you were a Knight you were considered a lower-class nobleman who rode horses into battle. Chivalry was a law for the Knights and they have to follow it. A Knight’s main job was to be skilled fighter on horses and to help the military and their King. They were also required by the laws of chivalry to help people who cannot help themselves. When there were no Wars going on they lived in castles or large fortified houses. Christianity influenced the Knights because it was the reason why they had chivalry. Knights try to have values of faith, hope, charity, Justice, strength, moderation, and loyalty. when the nights were not fighting battles they went to games where they had jousting tournaments.
The idea of chivalry was written about in a lot of medieval writing. Some of the writing was combined with romance, especially during the time of the Renaissance. Today stories of a knight in shining armor saving A damsel in distress is a common theme to hear in stories about Knights. Knights and chivalry were forgotten during the Renaissance but to this day some people still are knighted for doing great deeds but not anything to do with the military.
