The Glorious Revolution

The Glorious Revolution happened in 1688. King James II was king when his older brother King Charles II died. Lots of people thought that King James II was trying to be an absolute king of the country. Eventually King James II had to run away and give up the throne.

The original heir to the throne was the daughter of King James II, Mary. but when he had a catholic son the parliament feared a catholic monarchy would take over. Even the people who liked the king told the king something had to be done. When the king made his son the heir the parlerment invited william III of Orange to invade. They kicked the king out and the parliament made William co-monarke. The reason it is called The Glorious Revolution is because

1: the parliament overthrow the king

2: there was very little violence

3:the winners wrote the books so they said it was Glorious, but the other side probably thought it was horrible.

.Parliament took away most of the king’s power and has continuously gained more power.
