John Cabot is the first European to visit North America after the Vikings. King Henry VII of England gave John Cabot the money he needed to go to North America. He landed in 1497.
John Cabot was born in 1450. His Father was a merchant. He learned about sailing and navigation. When he was 24 he got married. In 1488 he moved to England from Venice because of money issues. He wanted to go on a voyage because he had heard of the money that other explorers have found on their voyages. On his first voyage he had 18 people on the ship called Matthew. After 50 days they landed on North America. When he returned to England, John Cabot went back to America the next year with 5 ships and 300 men. But on some point in the trip they mysteriously disappeared. They where never heard of again and still today they are still unheard of.
What a sad essay! Global travel sure was risky back then.
